State agencies have provided over 4,300 residents with free water bottles after 185 water wells revealed concentrations of PFA’s. A health advisory is expected for at least 90 days while the state continues testing. The city of La Crosse has especially been affected by the presence of PFA’s. Last year, the city was flagged due to high contamination levels in two wells. The La Crosse Airport has been tied to PFA contamination due to the chemical presence in the soil and groundwater on the airport’s property. A health advisory allows the state to control exposure of the contaminated water to residents and supply them with clean water. The city is currently only supplying water to residents whose water contains more then the state’s safety standard. The DNR has provided water bottles to residents who will not receive water from the city.
