Another state has taken a step forward and set its own maximum contaminant level for PFAS. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection voted to draft a proposal containing the new limit. Their limit of 14 parts per trillion (ppt) is around the nationwide average for forever chemicals. Within the same proposal, the department suggested sampling plans that may grow understanding of the contaminants.
Pennsylvania hopes to develop methods of detecting and treating PFAS and PFOS, and developing related technologies. Some other key chemicals related to PFAS are not included in the proposal due to less fundamental knowledge. The state is now slated to soon have updated regulations on these forever chemicals, and marks another step on the path to water protection nationwide.
