The New York state legislature recently passed legislation that would require testing for a number of chemicals. Amongst these chemicals is PFAS, the forever chemicals. Homes across the state have been impacted by these hazardous contaminants. Those affected are now calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to sign this legislation into law.
According to ABC6 News, Senators James Skoufis and Richard Gottfried headed the efforts to push the legislation through both houses. At each step it passed by an overwhelming majority. Now all that remains is the Governor’s signature. A press conference will be held on the fifth anniversary of the “Water Quality and Contamination Hearing”. This hearing took place in 2016, as water crises rippled across the state. Now it is up to the citizens and leaders of New York to set limits and protect their water sources.
