The road to clean water is long and difficult, and none know this better than Flint, Michigan. The town that had incredible difficulty with lead contamination has recently finalized a potential solution to their water problem—A $17-million dollar pipeline to import healthy water from Genesee County. Eager to never repeat the mistakes of the past, Flint officials have commenced thorough testing of drinking water. These tests will take approximately two weeks to yield results, though they can detect upwards of 35 different hazardous chemicals. The state has begun to accept volunteers interested in conducting these tests in any interested household. Hopefully, this testing will ensure that treatment plants are effective and meet all health criteria. Maybe soon the town that made water quality a national issue may finally have clean drinking water.
