This past July, CNN reported on a study from researchers at the University of Michigan looking at nearly 10,000 adults ages 18-64 that found staying hydrated can help with managing weight.
While this isn’t exactly surprising (water has been touted as an important weight-loss tool by health experts for decades), it is further solid evidence of water’s weight-loss powers.
That article also noted that in addition to drinking water, increasing your intake of hydrating fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, apples, watermelon and celery can be beneficial.
Along with that report, Women’s Health also recently wrote about how drinking more water can help you lose weight. Here are a few of the key points they made:
1. Staying hydrated will make your workouts more effective – Water is fuel. Staying hydrated will allow you to workout harder, longer.
2. Drinking water will increase your metabolism – Every time you eat or drink something (including water), your body has to work (AKA burn calories) to process it. Since water has no calories, it’s all burn.
3. It tells you if you’re really hungry – When you get a craving for food, try drinking a glass of water first. You may actually just be dehydrated. In that case, water can lift your energy level and help you avoid that unnecessary snack.
