Connecticut officials have begun to discover PFAS contaminants within water sources across the state. A small town of Killingworth was recently tested and found 15 wells exceeding the contaminant limit. After this and other discoveries, environmental agencies have committed to find other contamination sites. Their investigation will be comprehensive, testing soil, streams, fish, and more. Small towns like Killingworth must rely on state institutions for such expensive issues. The state of Connecticut has worked to reduce concentration of hazardous chemicals in the area, but the frustration remains.
States that have less experience with these ‘forever chemicals’ face uncertainty regarding long term effects. PFAS are so effective at spreading through water, it almost appears as if it materializes where it pleases. There is little certainty to how the contaminants infected the groundwater and well water, so these citizens must be on their guard.
