Chemical Companies Involved in PFAS Leakage Pay Up

In 2018 Ohio issued a lawsuit to three chemical companies; DuPont, Chemours, and Corteva. This lawsuit demanded compensation from the organizations, as their operations knowingly led to leakage of PFAS into the state’s water sources. After several long years, the companies and the state reached a settlement, with the companies paying out a total of $110 million to go towards detection and treatment efforts on behalf of the state.

There have been many lawsuits filed against these companies, DuPont in particular. This legal action is necessary to demonstrate that the state and the people will not let negligence of this level go unpunished. Governor Mike Dewine announced the settlement while highlighting how long these companies ignored the impact of their actions. The consequences of their decades of PFAS leakage can be felt throughout the state, and has left state officials with the unenviable task of working to treat and filter the water contaminated by these companies. s contamination and begin treatment processes.
